Traditional home office decor is elegant and refined. It should have an overall cohesive look, but you can include eclectic elements as long as they reflect the room’s overall look and feel in their shape or color. The refined look of traditional decorating calls for rich, warm colors, especially on walls. Deep red and marigold yellow have long been popular color choices; for an updated traditional color palette, consider taupe, cream or a tint of lavender. Decorative paint techniques, including stippling and combing, can add texture and visual appeal to the room. In today’s home office traditional often describes a combination of sophisticated furniture pieces from various periods and countries, as well as luxurious accessories and trimmings. (more…)

No matter if you’re running a home business or simply want a room in which you can use your computer and catch up on your paperwork, you’ll need home office decorating ideas in order to make that important space that you can call your own. Home office decorating has a very important purpose, which is to make the room functional, relaxing, and maybe sometimes just to get away from the stress of the day; it’s a place where you are able to do your best work.

For many years Tuscan design was the go-to style for designers of home offices. Create a cozy and comfortable office space using warm, earth-toned colors, soft fabrics, natural materials and rustic elements To decorate in Tuscan paint the home office a Tuscan-inspired shade such as olive green, chocolate brown or brick red if you prefer a dark color or use sky blue, lavender of golden yellow to lighten up the space.

Decorate with rich wood furniture pieces with a dull, distressed, or glazed finish for a rustic look. Choose a dark teal or cherry wood work desk, side table with a wrought iron lamp and bookcase set. Add color to a chocolate brown leather sofa with beige and cream-colored linen decorative pillows. Enhance the space with wrought iron elements. Hang iron wall sconces over the desk as a decorative lighting element.

Wood floors accentuate a Tuscan office. Have the floor stain matched to the furniture, or contrasts the color of the wood completely. The contrast will add visual interest and provide a backdrop for the furniture. Reinforce the room’s color palette with a rug in the center of the room. Tuscan design uses floral patterns, and rich, wide, bold stripes. Whatever you do don’t use wall to wall carpeting if you want an authentic Tuscan décor. (more…)

Make your home office a playground as much as a working environment; it should be designed to not only be functional but also fun. Fill it with color, posters, pictures, plants or whatever makes you smile the most. Let your imagination run wild when designing your ideal home office space. Don’t conform or obey the rules. This is your office space break the rule of those old and stuffy home office designs.

The first thing you should to do is develop a list of the things you will need to do and the equipment needed. Will you need a fax, copier, computer or?  Next chose the space that will work the best for you. Is this room going to double as an office/family room, den or is it going to be a dedicated office?  Just be mindful of sound and other distractions from your home. A room with at least one window or two would be ideal is preferred.   Having a good source of natural light in your office also allows you to keep plants and flowers which add atmosphere and also produce oxygen.

After you have decided on your location get out your tape rule and start measuring where everything will go.  If you prefer go online to one of the design software sites such as Interior Design and Decorating Online at www.seemydesign.com. Here you can actually design your office space in 3D.

If you already have office furniture, there is no need to start from scratch, but if you want to update your office be sure to do your research before purchasing. When buying your office furniture, keep in mind that you don’t need the most expensive nor do you need the least. Look for furniture that is built to last, by going with a trusted name. Buy furniture that is consistent. Having an office that looks the part goes a long way when you’re in it. If it looks professional, you feel professional.

The best home office layout comes in an appearance that inspires you to work. Enjoy the work you have put into designing your home office and use it.
